J.W. Anderson’s sexually ambiguous fall 2013 men’s collection featured a succession of steely-faced men in knee-high frilled leather boots, ruffled neoprene shorts, tube tops and, in one case, a full-blown industrial-wool dress (our first thought was that it looked vaguely like a Victoria Beckham design). And despite the triple-takes, the whole shebang was actually pretty damn smart—and unarguably very Anderson. The Northern Irish designer had a banner 2012, with an appointment to the helm of Versace’s Versus line, following Christopher Kane’s exit, as well as a successful […]

“Check on check on tweed on check,” the designer deadpanned during a presentation of his youthful, sophisticated collection with a sporty, early Sixties feel. On the final day of London Collections: Men, Ford showed an abundance of Glen plaid and check suits, many of them three-piece and worn with roll neck sweaters instead of shirts. The collection also featured a lighthearted lineup of Fair Isle cashmere sweaters – which he paired with check trousers and loafers – and other knits with […]

DAMIEN HIRST has designed the 2013 Brit Awards statue. The artist is the third British creative to give the music prize a makeover, following Dame Vivienne Westwood in 2011 and Sir Peter Blake in 2012. “I am honoured to be asked to design this year’s statue,” said Hirst. “It has become such an iconic award, I love the Brits.” Hirst’s statue is covered with bright multi-coloured dots – a signature motif of the artist. The trophies will be handed out during the ceremony […]

THE pre-collections serve as a deliberately lighter version of designers’ influences and intentions, an appetiser to what can be expected from the international catwalks and an adhesive between seasons. Subsequently, they are packed full of clothes we really can – and want – to wear every day. While some trends that established themselves in the spring/summer 2013 collections were evident – printed pyjamas, cobalt, the bomber jacket, sheer, collars – a number of fresh ideas broke new ground. Board shorts are set […]
