April 30, 2013 by The CoF

Nicolas Ghesquière talks about why he left Balenciaga in a very interesting interview for System Magazine. Interviewed by Jonathan Wingfield. At what point into the job at Balenciaga did you realise you needed to wise up to the business side of the brand? NG: Straight away. It’s part of being a creative because the vision you have ends up in the stores. It actually makes me smile today when I think about it because it was me who had to […]

Balenciaga Fall 2013 Collection

Balenciaga Fall 2013 Collection

February 28, 2013 by The CoF

The most expected show of this season is finally here. Following Nicolas Ghesquièreat would be daunting for everybody an yet more for a young american designer in Paris. Is well known that Wang spent some time in the archives of Balenciaga and this was evident in today’s collection, he stayed true to many of the hallmarks we know of the house: the curved hems, the sloping shoulders, the sense of oversized to narrow down below. From my point of view I can say he […]

The Button. Arte E Moda

January 24, 2013 by The CoF

The buttons of Chanel, Versace, Elsa Schiaparelli and of the greatest couturiers on show at the Musei Mazzucchelli. Pavese tells us their story If in everyday life some details can be considered negligible, in the world of fashion detail is everything. “The detail is as important as the essential is. When it is inadequate, it destroys the whole outfit”said Christian Dior. This is why the famous couturiers paid great attention to the buttons. “It was back in 1967. My father went to Paris to present a […]

Cartoon Couture Collections

January 15, 2013 by The CoF

Though beautiful models are usually the top selection when showing off the newest collections, The StyleMonk has decided to take another route and replace the typical models with some very beloved and famous cartoon characters. Some of the fiercest, albeit unexpected ladies in the cartoon world have been sketched out to look fabulous in such prominent designers like Pierre Balmain, Balenciaga and Givenchy. Taking them out of their usual outfits, infamous characters as the Sailor Moon crew, Betty Boop and […]

The Best Street Style of 2012

December 27, 2012 by The CoF

The show outside of the shows is here to stay and one thing that has become evidently clear from the street style parade is that more is more. Whether wearing baroque embellishment, layers upon layers of jewelry, or mixing and matching prints from head to toe, established experts like Taylor Tomasi Hill, Caroline Issa, and Tamu McPherson continued to display the best trends of the year, while fresh faces such as Anne-Catherine Frey and Sofía Sanchez Barrenechea added an eclectic touch and created looks that were anything but […]

John Galliano Intends To Come Back?

December 18, 2012 by The CoF

Picture credit: PA Photos JOHN GALLIANO will return to fashion – says legendary US Vogue creative director Grace Coddington. “I love John, I think he’s brilliant,” she said. “He certainly intends to come back – when he’s ready. I hope he will return, but I don’t know. That’s a tough one to get over. That’s tougher than the Gucci people thinking they want a change of face.” Coddington went onto to show her faith and confidence in another fashion pioneer who recently left the industry […]

Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2013

December 7, 2012 by The CoF

After the precision and linear quality of his spring collection, Alexander Wang was in the mood for something softer for pre-fall. “We were playing with this idea of blurriness and ambiguity,” he said. “I love the idea of intertwining and not knowing where a dress ends and a jacket begins.” He blurred the lines with great scarf dresses, slim with a loosely draped line, some in suede or sueded jersey. They were done in a mostly colorless palette of black, […]

November 18, 2012 by The CoF

Squelching a flurry of online reports declaring Christopher Kane new creative director, Christopher Kane has issued a denial saying he is not joining the French fashion house. The blogosphere erupted late Friday evening when French newsweekly Le Nouvel Observateur reported on its Web site that the trendy Scottish designer would join Balenciaga and replace Nicolas Ghesquière, who is to exit the house on Nov. 30. “Rumors surrounding Christopher Kane’s appointment as creative director of Balenciaga are unfounded,” said a Christopher Kane spokesman.
