The Fashion Icon: Kate Moss

Even if you like it or not she is the supreme icon for the last 20 years in the fashion industry. And here she is with her début book. The picture-based coffee table book features photographs, many of which have never been seen before, from the Vogue cover girl’s lengthy career – chosen by Moss herself. Contributions come from Hedi SlimaneDavid SimsJuergen TellerPatrick Demarchelier and Mario Testino. Ex-boyfriend and father to her daughter Jefferson Hack and close friend and casting director Jess Hallett edited the tome.

  • In 1990, two years after being famously scouted by Sarah Doukas for her then new model agency Storm, Kate Moss signed an exclusive contract with Calvin Klein for apparel and fragrance. The move changed the face of modelling forever with Moss’ petite proportions making a marked contrast to the Supers – Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford et al – who dominated the ad billboards of the time.
  • When she wore a vintage Vivienne Westwood boots from the designer’s 1981 Pirate collection to a Santana concert in 2000, her status as a true trend setter was cemented. “If people had told me a girl could create a stir like this over a pair of bloody boots, I would never have believed them,” said Steven Phillips of vintage shop Rellik, who sourced the boots. The resulting fashion storm sparked a flurry of high street interpretations of the boots and Westwood decided to put the boots back in to production.

Talking about KM is like a never-ending story because she’s here to stay!
