LEATHER-LOOK polishes, magnetic crocodile designs and liquid sand textures – a whole host of new formulas and finishes for nails are on offer this spring.
At Rodarte‘s spring/summer 2013 show the models sported basket-woven nails, whilst Alexa Chung caused a social media frenzy by tweeting about her Nails Inc leather nails at the British Fashion Awards back in November. And now, intriguing new nail options are becoming available across the board.
But whilst Ciaté’s Colourfoil nails and those much-discussed Nails Inc leather polishes are true head-turners, there’s plenty for minimalists too. Butter London’s new collection comprises three shades designed to perfectly match your skin tone – giving the illusion of long, elegant fingers – whilst Dior‘s Nail Glow is a super sheer pink which miraculously makes the tips of your nails even whiter, creating a pretty French manicure effect.
OPI
Most glitter nail polishes require several coats to achieve all-over shimmer, but OPI’s new Liquid Sand technology means the glitter is evenly and heavily distributed, and features a matte, rough-textured finish – just as the name suggests.

Nails Inc
Ever since Alexa Chung tweeted about her Nails Inc leather manicure at the 2012 British Fashion Awards, the clever product has been flying from the shelves. Giving nails a matte leather-look finish, the pack also includes silver skull embellishments, for a real rock ‘n’ roll edge.

Dior
Dior’s latest nail innovation is this super sheer pink Nail Glow. An all-in-one nailcare, varnish and glow, it gives nails a pretty petal hue whilst somehow managing to make the tips of your nails even whiter – creating a subtle French manicure effect (see, we told you it was a trend).
Essie
We’ve seen magnetic polishes before, but these clever Essie versions really do create a reptile design on your nails – all you have to do is sweep the magnet (provided) over two coats of the polish, and watch as the scale-like look develops.

Butter London
This season, Butter London has recognised the importance of finding the perfect nude nails and has created three shades to suit different skin tones. The idea is to wear the exact shade of your skin, elongating the fingers in the same way nude shoes elongate the legs. Clever.

Ciaté
They’ve given us caviar nails and velvet nails and now Ciaté is introducing the Very Colourfoil Manicure set, which creates a metallic, graffiti-like effect when foil sheets are applied over glue and ripped off. It’s easy to use, and the effects are very striking indeed.

Topshop
We loved nail art pens as teenagers and we love them even more now. Topshop’s new versions feature a skinny brush for stripes and flicks, a pen tip for intricate designs and a pot of little gems for embellishment. Time to get creative!

Chanel
At Chanel’s spring/summer 2013 show, Peter Philips decided that the models should sport classic French manicures – a move that certainly got the beauty world talking. Chanel’s classic Ballerina – which has, sadly, been discontinued – was used at the show, but the pretty Emprise from the spring 2013 collection is a shimmery alternative if you fancy following Chanel’s lead and reviving the classic look.

Nails Inc
With a texture just like, well, concrete, Nails Inc’s Concrete polishes create a grainy, matte finish that’s entirely modern.

Essie
Essie has finally done it, and created the nail stickers we’ve all been waiting for. Designs range from the geometric to the zebra-printed and all you need to do is stick them on and you’re ready to go!

I love those OPI Liquid Sand polishes, they are absolutely gorgeous – and loving the Butter nudes, melt in the mouth tones.
Is there a trick to applying the nail stickers? They seem to be so convenient but I’ve tried to put them on and it was a mess! My least favorite part of finger nail polish is letting it dry and if I knew the trick to nail stickers, it would solve my problem!
