Paula Cheng is a New York-based knitwear and accessories designer.
Paula is currently a graduate student in the inaugural class of the Fashion Design and Society MFA program at Parsons the New School for Design, where she specializes in research-based designs, deconstructive knitwear and complex free-form draping. She uses the process of plying and mixing fibers, metallic hues and feather-like textures and pulling loops into loops to form fabric, texture to ultimately form structure. She describes her processes as complex as it is simple, which reflects her own journey of what it is to create, to make, and to fashion.
Paula Cheng was nominated as Designer of the Year in 2010 for her BFA graduating collection, META, at Parsons the New School for Design. Her recent achievements include winner of Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Competition sponsored by the House of McQueen and the Metropolitan Museum; finalist of the 2011 Feel the Yarn competition at Pitti Filati; finalist for two LVMH sponsored competitions, and designer feature in September 2010 and 2011 issues of Vogue Italia.
