In mid-July, from 11 th to 22 th, Christies.com will host an online auction with vintage items from Suzy Menkes’s wardrobe . Suzy Menkes is a veteran fashion journalist, fashion critic of International Herald Tribune and she was last week named international fashion editor of the soon-to-launch International New York Times. There will be more than 80 items, among them a bespoke Chanel clutch bag with gold studs laid out the name of Susie,an Yves Saint Laurent tuxedo,an ivory dress by Ossie Clark from the seventies, futuristic Christian Dior glasses, a multi-colored Paul Smith coat and much more. Prices start at £ 200.
“I have never thrown anything out of my wardrobe since 1964,” Menkes said. “If I had a large open space in my home, I would dedicate it, like an art gallery, to my collection. But there is something sad about clothes laid in a tomb of trunks. They need to live again, and this auction provides the opportunity for them to walk out in the sunshine, to dance the night away and to give someone else the joy that they gave to me.”
