Starting this month on the website of the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation will launch an online installation of paper dresses – original designs created by the designer. This unusual project it is another way to show everyone the story of the evolution of the creativity of the legendary couturier.
From 1948-1949, Yves Saint Laurent imagined the fashion house of his dreams: “Yves Mathieu Saint Laurent Haute Couture Place Vendome”. With paper, scissors, gouache and ink, he draws collections for paper dolls that he called… Paper doll. From his mother’s favorite magazines, Vogue, Jardin des Modes or Paris-Match, he cut silhouettes of his favorite models of the time and dressed them with the dresses and accessories that he created.
The Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation retains 11 dolls, nearly 443 garments and 105 accessories dating from the early Yves Saint Laurent Fall / Winter 1953 and Fall / Winter 1954 collections. Paper Dolls it is only the first part of a major initiative of the Foundation, which is planning a series of online installations on the life and work of the designer.
