Francesco Russo, the 39-year-old former designer at Sergio Rossi and the creator of Yves Saint Laurent’s signature Tribute shoe, presented last week his own collection during Paris Fashion Week.
While working for Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Laurent ,he created the famous shoe which is reproduce year after year in new colors and materials.
“I want to do beautiful shoes, above the sense of time, above the sense of fashion,” Russo told Style.com. “It’s like Manolo. Manolo did the stiletto from the eighties until today. There was the time of the platform, he didn’t do platforms. He just did whatever he feels. I try to have that luxury. And the fact that I have my own name now, I can have that luxury.”
His new collection will include stiletto-heel pumps, laced boots and sandals that artfully combine timeless style with high-fashion details such as a fan of leather rising from the back. The prices will range from €430 to €4,000 (about $580 to $5,400).
If in the past he was designing even 700 pair of shoes for the brands he was working now it will be just 25 pairs.
“When you’re working for someone, you just focus on the collection,” he says. Now having his own business he has to make all the decision by himself being involved in every process.”You start to really appreciate any little success you have because every success is such a struggle,” he says.
