” Label Robyn Lawley a plus-size model if you want. Or, why not go with our preferred adjective – hot. Introducing the local beauty making a big impression on the international fashion scene.
“I’ve got big hips and a big body. I’m double, triple the size of other models – and I embrace that, I own it ” declares Robyn Lawley.
She also owns an overwhelming sense of ease – a laidback Aussie charm that further sets this internationally recognised 24-year-old apart from her lithe, often uptight, colleagues.
“At 6ft 2, I like to make men sweat a little when I meet them,” she offers as a cheeky aside, a broad smile stretching beneath twinkling green eyes. And sweat they would, Lawley an undeniably powerful presence – as well as one of the most fun models we’ve had the pleasure of hanging out with.
Little wonder interest in the former Sydneysider has led to Vogue covers (that’s right – plural) and a notable 2012 Ralph Lauren campaign.
The recent spotlight comes despite starting out in the industry nine years ago. It was a different time and Lawley was in a very different headspace – compelled to comply with scrawny model stereotypes by starving herself. It lasted six months – before moving to France. “That was game over,” she says, again laughing, “there was just way too much bread and cheese. ” – gq.com.au
