Now it’s official : the Louvre Abu Dhabi will be open for visitors December 2, 2015 ! The date was announced this week by the Minister of Culture of France Aurélie Filippetti at the opening Abu Dhabi Art exhibition, as reported by the newspaper The Art Newspaper.
In the UAE capital Filippetti flew together with the director of the Louvre Jean-Luc Martinez and not less than 11 directors of French museums . The contract was signed with the Louvre for the next 30 years: it includes the use of the original title and the opportunity to supply the world’s masterpieces of art in the museum. Martinez assured that Abu Dhabi has already selected 300 works of art . Filippetti , in turn, noted that the new Louvre will focus on the culture of the UAE (unsurprisingly ) and the work of artists of the XXI century .
About the new opening of Louvre in Abu Dhabi French critics said that the Louvre ” sells his soul ” , but the director of the Museums of France, Lawrence De Kar has a different opinion : she is confident that the new branch will be the symbol of unity of different civilizations and cultures . We agree!
The building of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi is projected by well-known French architect Jean Nouvel . The shiny white building area of 64 thousand square meters is being constructed in the center of the artificially created Saadiyat Island in the Persian Gulf . The shape of the museum a “seemingly floating dome structure”decorated with ” laced” roof that lets the light to penetrate ,creating an amazing effect. By the way not far from the UAE , in Qatar the architect also projected a building with similar surface tracery :last, the architect built the skyscraper Burj Doha in Doha,Qatar.
