New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014-2015 opens a new Fashion Week season
The Fall/Winter 2014-2015 season will start on Thursday in New York. Fashion editors, buyers and bloggers from around the world prepared their baggage and are on they way to the Big City right now. But these New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014-2015 comes with a few surprises. Let’s see which are the most interesting
1. Less bloggers in the front row
As the great fashion critic Suzy Menkes pointed last year in one of her articles the Fashion Week starts to looks like a circus . And Catherine Bennett of IMG Fashion agrees as the press list will be cut by 20% and will fall under the reduction of fashion bloggers in the first place. With the idea in mind that Fashion Week is for professionals we agree. But if the front rows will see less bloggers don’t worry the streets are their play ground
2. Plus-size models on the catwalk
If last season Fashion Week was marked by the fight for racial diversity on catwalk this season will be about size. Modeling agency IMG Models before the start of Fashion Week has signed contracts with five plus-size models without creating a special section for them but put them along their famous models. It is rumored that they are on the Fashion Week Castings list so there is the possibility to see them next days on the runways. Of course will be a great marketing move for designers who will use them. We’ll keep an eye on it!
3. Jason Wu will show his first collection for Hugo Boss
Jason Wu and Hugo boss’ PR- team heated interest in the debut collection of Wu. Their main weapon was the mini-movie This Is Boss, in which the main role is played by British model Edie Campbell and directed by Dutch duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin . The official premier will be on February 7 but 4 short previews each no longer than 20 seconds were released. The Hugo Boss show will be held on the evening of February 12.
4. Fashion leaves Manhattan to go to Brooklyn.
Following Diana Vreeland’s advice that the eye has to travel Alexander Wang moves his show to Brooklyn from the classic Lincoln Center. He followed the designers of the “old guard” like Michael Kors , Diane von Furstenberg ,Carolina Herrera who explored in the past seasons other areas of New York out from the iconic Bryant Park. Joseph Altuzarra announced that he will explore new locations too.
5. Marc Jacobs first show after he left Louis Vuitton
The official reason for leaving Louis Vuitton was said to be the designer’s desire to focus on the development of its own brand . So everybody in the fashion industry expects to see what Jacobs prepared for the Marc by Marc Jacobs fashion shows on February 12 and then on 14th at the Marc Jacobs shows.
6. Many young designers and new names
Along with the main fashion week at Lincoln Center will host another, her younger sister Made Fashion Week — it will be attended by 28 young designers. And for this week is worth watching with equal, if not greater, interest: we have a chance to see the people who in ten years would rule the world of fashion.
