A GOTHIC take on A Midsummer Night’s Dreamwas what Karl Lagerfeld had in mind for his spring/summer 2013 couture show for Chanel this morning. And a dream it certainly was. We stepped into an enchanted forest beneath the dome of the Grand Palais and into a world seemingly straight from the pages of Shakespeare, a wooden auditorium surrounding us, and edgy fairies about to come to life before us. Stella Tennant opened the show in a white tweed cape and jacket hybrid, black […]
Hedi Slimane at full Hedi Slimane-ness, Saint Laurent was everything you’d guess it to be. Skinny goes without saying, as does gaunt Rock n’ Roll boys. Add to the pile touches of grunge with plaid shirts, show off beaded jackets, military as worn by Pete & Co. and a rather nice baseball jacket offering a slight change to proceedings. Disheveled glamour for (anaemic) young folk and plenty of androgyny to keep you guessing. It looks like Isabel Marant meets Balmain to me! […]
Donatella Versace last night/ via style.com Couture Fashion Week kicked off last night – a four-day-long schedule featuring the fashion world’s key names and the most beautiful and expensive creations of the season. While the opulent gowns designed by heavyweights such as Chanel and Dior might be out of most of our budgets, the event does give us the opportunity to see designers at their most creative, extravagant and dramatic. It was Atelier Versace who begun the proceedings last night […]

Anyone who has an interest in the industry knows that luxury fashion never sleeps. For example, it’s the dead of winter and we’re still bundled up in our warmest knits, meanwhile the Fall/Winter 2013 fashion shows kick off in global locations next week. And while New York, Milan, London and Paris host the most renowned Fashion Weeks known to man, there are so many other worldwide cities that set a week aside twice a year to celebrate the industry and its top […]
Angela Missoni, sister of Vittorio Missoni, whose plane went missing on Jan. 4, issued a statement confirming that the fal show would take place as scheduled, as “at this difficult moment for my family and our company, the firm must continue its activities.” Missoni stated: “I will be backstage as always to complete my work on the collection, but I will not give any interview or make any statement and I trust in your collaboration in order for the show […]
Two key pant styles — a relaxed jogger-inspired design, and a drop-crotch ankle-length trouser — were paired with very masculine maxi coats and wool jackets with leather panels. One stiff and shiny bomber jacket had flashes of deep, electric blue, lighting up the mostly black lineup. Ennio Capasa is a master in layering, and he’s definitely perfected the biker jacket. I am a fan!
One of my favorite collection for pre-fall 2013!For me, Costume National is exquisite design and high quality. Ennio Capasa extended lapels on jackets and added zipper details and leather touches to asymmetric dresses that stayed close to the designer’s signature aesthetic.
For his first pre-fall collection for Dior, Raf Simons wrote another chapter in his modernist makeover of the storied French house, employing the same vocabulary as his couture and ready-to-wear debuts last year. “New classics” is the term the Belgian designer applied to his latest takes on tuxedo suits, “bar” jackets and such iconic prints and fabrics as florals and Prince de Galle checks. “I wanted to continue exploring the Dior codes we started establishing,” Simons told WWD. But this […]
J.W. Anderson’s sexually ambiguous fall 2013 men’s collection featured a succession of steely-faced men in knee-high frilled leather boots, ruffled neoprene shorts, tube tops and, in one case, a full-blown industrial-wool dress (our first thought was that it looked vaguely like a Victoria Beckham design). And despite the triple-takes, the whole shebang was actually pretty damn smart—and unarguably very Anderson. The Northern Irish designer had a banner 2012, with an appointment to the helm of Versace’s Versus line, following Christopher Kane’s exit, as well as a successful […]
From gentlemanly pocket squares and luxe leather gloves to the humble roll neck and gilet, take a look at the trends men will be toting for autumn/winter 2013. ORANGE From burnt orange coats to flame-coloured gloves, designers littered the capital with sunset hues this week. The message: the brighter the better. Clockwise from left: Jonathan Saunders, Topman Design, Hackett, Agi & Sam, J.W. Anderson, E. Tautz. BOMBER JACKETS Forget bulky winter coats, next autumn is all about the neat bomber for […]
“Check on check on tweed on check,” the designer deadpanned during a presentation of his youthful, sophisticated collection with a sporty, early Sixties feel. On the final day of London Collections: Men, Ford showed an abundance of Glen plaid and check suits, many of them three-piece and worn with roll neck sweaters instead of shirts. The collection also featured a lighthearted lineup of Fair Isle cashmere sweaters – which he paired with check trousers and loafers – and other knits with […]
