Today , February 10, Donna Karan will hold her fashion show for the fall/winter 2014-2015 collection dedicated to the 30th anniversary of her brand.
It was 1984 when Donna Karan was pushed away from Anne Klein ,the brand for which she was working since 1968 , and received an investment of $3 million from the company that was owning Anne Klein to create her own brand, Donna Karan New York.
Soon after Karan wins her first followed the year after by the second CFDA award, that acknowledged “her impact on the total look of fashion.” The strong point of Karan’s designs were the stretch fabrics , the designer explaining, “We can fit clothes more snugly so women can move as freely as if they had nothing on.” Her blockbuster, the bodysuit launch in black and gold for fall 1985 that helped her to put her name in the fashion history book.
Today after 30 years Donna Karan names is synonymous with success that include a second line,DKNY,launched in 1988 , many famous fragrances, stunning collections that graced the covers and pages of the magazines and were worn by the greatest celebrities on the red carpet. In 2001 the brand was bought by LVMH group for $600 million.
The secret of Karan’s success is Karan herself. “Everything comes out of what works for me,” she has said. The idea behind Donna has always been that she reports on women’s lives.“Design and style should work toward making you look good and feel good without a lot of effort,” she told Australian Vogue’s Web site in 2010, “so you can get on with the things that matter.”
