By Jordanna Tennebaum Vogue Japan’s ‘Ready to Party’ editorial will be displayed in the magazine’s January 2013 issue. Timeless is a word we all use, and one we often bear in mind with focused intention when creating images today. Despite the ubiquity of the concept of timelessness, to successfully achieve such magic is a feat very few can accomplish, much less accomplish time after time. The name Demarchelier hangs like an iconic banner of such imagery over the pages of countless magazines and endless advertising campaigns today and through decades past. As contemporary is frequently defined as ‘A […]

Open up the new Vogue Italia and you’ll see the stunning Vanessa Axente looking amazing in Steven Meisel‘s ultra-chic imagery, but take a closer look and you may get a case of deja vu. Don’t those long blonde waves look familiar, isn’t the outsized eroticism and in your face glamour reminiscent of a time, a place? If you started to hear the Rolling Stones playing the background and got a distinctly 70s feel from the entire endeavor, you’re on the right track. Meisel looks back […]

Text by Janelle Looking back on the season that was and some of the runway proportion plays, we started to think back to the larger than life silhouettes of the 1980s. Back when a shoulder pad was de rigueur you couldn’t open up a fashion magazine without seeing the incredible designs of Claude Montana. Focusing on exquisite construction, luxurious materials and of course shape, Montana’s eponymous label flourished from 1979 until 1997, and for two years in the early nineties he even […]

Text by Janelle Last week it was announced that the consistently stellar Vogue Hommes Japan would be shuttering as part of Conde Nast’s decision to switch their men’s publications globally from Vogue, to GQ Style. Magazines come and go, but Vogue Hommes Japan was something special. Led by Nicola Formichetti and featuring the talents of some of fashion’s biggest names, the mag delved into the artistic, eccentric and boundary pushing side of menswear. Fashion can often be disproportionally focused on the ladies, but Formichetti and co. […]

By Janelle Asia and its diverse cultures have long had an unmistakable impact on the industry, but in recent years the influence has been especially prevalent. The growth of the Asian market and the rise of a new generation of influential Asian talents has prompted designers and photographers to look East in search of inspiration. The F/W runways were filled with pieces whose details seemed cribbed from traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean fashions. Two fresh editorials showcase the season’s East […]

Grace Coddington Text by Sebastian Kim On the eve of the publication of Grace Coddington‘s memoirs the famously flame haired fashion editor is everywhere.Head to any news website worth its salt and you’ll find an excerpt from the tasteful tell-all (or just check it out on Vogue.com) detailing the backstory of some epic editorial moment straight from Vogue’s pages. Indeed it seems we’re living in a state of Grace, so to speak, so what better time to look back on the trademarks […]

The first Alta Moda salon show by Dolce & Gabbana had all the right ingredients — luxurious eveningwear and the highest level of craftsmanship — but the dynamic duo turned their craft into more than that. They made it an experience, one that evoked the richness of the Italian way of life. The three-day-long Sicilian extravaganza involved Bellini’s bel canto opera Norma in an ancient Roman amphitheatre; an incredible fireworks display synced to Verdi’s Valzer Brillante against a picture-perfect Mount […]
